A Brief History of Pacific Centre Family Services Association
1968 What is now known as Pacific Centre Family Services Association, the “Island Child Development and Research Centre” was implemented by Dr. Charles Gregory. The Centre initially ran a residential treatment facility for children and youth with mental health challenges. The facility was located at Deer Leap House at 743 Pears Road in Metchosin.
1969 The name of the society was changed to Pacific Centre for Human Development, with original Constitution and new By-Laws.
1972 Pacific Centre for Human Development began leasing the property at 3221 Heatherbell Road (Havenwood), which overlooked Esquimalt Lagoon.
1977 The society implemented a summer day camp for children.
1980 The Havenwood property was purchased by Pacific Centre for Human Development
1983 The main building on the property (Pendray House) was the victim of arson, which gutted the main stairwell and part of the upstairs. It was rebuilt over the following 3 years.
1988 Name changed to Pacific Centre Family Services Association.
1997 PCFSA workers were unionized for the first time.
2003 PCFSA received full 3-year CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation in its first attempt.
2004 Launch of PCFSA (Pacific Centre Family Services Association) website
2005 Staff and programs moved to Wale Road and Peatt Road sites.
2007 Havenwood was sold to Corporate Hospitality Developments of Calgary
2008 PCFSA celebrated 40 years of service to the community and hosted an international two-day academic conference.
2014 PCFSA purchases 324 Goldstream Avenue
2016 Indigenous Blessing and Ground-breaking Ceremonies at 324 Goldstream Avenue.
2017 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of New Centre of Wellbeing
2018 Pacific Centre Family Services celebrated 50 years of service since incorporation September 28, 2018
2020 Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, PCFSA moved to a virtual model of service delivery, which later became a hybrid model.
2021 PCFSA received funding to open a Community Health Centre in May 2021.
2022 PCFSA began renovations to 200-324 Goldstream Avenue to incorporate the Community Health Centre into existing counselling services.
2022 June 1, 2022, The Westshore Community Health Centre opened its doors to offer longitudinal primary medical care services.
